Avril Richard (French pronunciation)
Story:
"Jordan, put the gun down! Think about what you're doing!"
With a wry smile, the young gunman said "I don't think you heard me Willard. I'm taking these eggs for myself. I'm going to have my own little crew of gargoyles, and to hell with the delivery!"
Willard sighed, trying to think of a way to get the gun away from Jordan. Firing a shot could be catastrophic afterall: they were on a private jet, somewhere over eastern Canada. "The eggs need to be delivered to Montreal. You really think they're not gonna come after you if you keep them to yourself?"
Then, Willard saw Mike off to the side, coming out of the shadows. "Mike, no!" He cried, but it was too late: Mike tackled Jordan, and the gun went off.

There was never exciting news in the coastal town of Richibucto, New Brunswick. It was primarily a fishing villiage and the people there lived a simple life. Albert and Maria Richard lived on a strait that came in from the ocean, and theirs was a peaceful life. They were an Acadian couple, nearing their fifties, with no kids. They had tried, but were unable to concieve and had long since given up trying. It was 1979 and life was good. This particular morning had been quite eventful, because a small airplane had crashed into a the strait a few miles from their home. Maria wanted to go check out the site, but Albert had wanted to go clam digging, and he wasn't going to let this news ruin his day. So out he went. It was a long, good day. He got himself a full bucket of clams. He figured they could invite the neighbors over for supper and perhaps play some crib.
As he was thinking on these things, walking through the knee deep water, he stubbed his toe on a rock, and gave a cry as he fell down with a splash. Laughing at himself, he gathered up his clams and took a look at the trouble maker. He did not expect what he saw next. It wasn't a rock. Not at all. It looked like an egg! And not only that, but it was bigger than any egg he had ever come across! He labored to get it out of the water, and then examined it. He had no idea what it could be, or why it would be in the water, so close to shore. He put it in his boat and brought it back home. 'Maybe there'll be an entry for it in my wildlife book.' He thought to himself.
Well, life was about to get very interesting for Albert and Maria Richard. They took care of the egg for a few weeks, nursing it the best way they knew how until it hatched a creature they had never seen before! The little thing looked like a baby, but it had golden skin, aqua colored eyes.....not to mention the wings and tail. After discussing for a while, they decided it would be cruel to put the thing out, so they decided to keep it with them in their home. They lived on a big, private property. Albert was soon delighted to learn that the creature grew like a human. It was learning to talk, and to function, and the girl (he had discovered it was a girl) was easy to keep quiet as it turned into a statue during the day. He just set her out on the porch and when friends came by, they always asked about the lifelike statue.
Albert and Maria named the girl (who they had started to view as a daughter) Avril, and they raised her as they would any one. They did their best to give her private schooling lessons. She became fluent in French, and learned english as well, although she had quite an accent. Albert taught her to swim, and dig clams. He also helped little Avril to get used to learning how to 'fly' although the act seemed to come naturally to her. Maria continuously made custom clothing for her.
Life was good, and simple for Avril, but as she grew older, she found herself wanting to meet other 'people' like her. Whenever she asked her parents why she couldn't leave the property, they simply said that other people 'wouldn't understand'. This frustrated her to no end, and when she asked why she was so different, her parents simply told her that she was an angel, given wings by god.
She knew that couldn't be right. Any picture she had ever seen of an angel had feathers and looked beautiful. She looked more like those stone statues she saw in movies on the television. 'Gargoyles' they were called. And the statues always looked so ugly.
Maria Passed away in 2003. She had got cancer and lost the battle after 3 years of fighting. Albert became scared for Avril, wondering what she would do after he was gone. He started doing some research, seeing if there was anywhere Avril could go. Finally in the mid 90's (not sure what year we're playing in, help me out here Nessa, haha) he got in contact with an interesting person in Montreal who was able to give him some info about what Avril was. He said he could take her there, that there were other creatures like her and they were indeed called gargoyles.
When Albert talked to Avril about it, she was beyond excited! She packed a small bag, and put on her favorite outfit. She also got a couple cds with her favorite music, and a discman that her father had bought her for her 32nd birthday. She said a tearful goodbye to her dad on a Friday afternoon, when a fancy looking helicopter touched down in their yard. She promised she would call, and write. She was afraid, but excited to meet others like her, to finally learn what it was to be a gargoyle. She had only known simple, human life, and had never been outside her property.
Features:
Avril is a young gargoyle. While she's been alive for just over 30 years, it's about the equivalent to being a teenager. If she wasn't a gargoyle, she would probably be considered quite pretty amongst humans. She has wide, aqua colored eyes, and golden skin. She keeps her hair styled with long bangs, and it hangs down by her shoulder blades in the back. She'll usually compliment it with a bandana of sorts. She learned from her mother how to sew, although she's a little clumsy at it with her big claws. She knows it well enough to stitch up her own clothing when she rips it, and she makes custom additions to her clothing to suit her style.
Avril stands around 5'5, quite small for a gargoyle, but she doesn't really know the difference as she has never met one aside from herself. She's got a lean build. She's quite strong (most gargoyles are) but she's spent a lot of time climbing trees around the property, playing soccer with her dad, and swimming in the strait, so she's quite agile as well. She wears a small silver necklace with a locket on it that has a picture of her mother and father.
Personality:
Avril is a 'teenager' that hasn't had the chance to meet other teenagers. She's acted out many times, and has often snuck down the strait a bit to spy on other humans, and other 'kids' her age, but her parents were always so stern about her meeting others that she never did make contact. She had learned basic schooling. She knows how to read and write in both french and english, and she has learned a bit about the wider world through reading and television. She loves listening to music on her discman(of course, if we're in a more modern setting, maybe even an mp3 player?), listening to anything from some lighter poppy stuff to a couple punk/metal bands.
Overall, she acts much more like a human teenager, and really knows nothing at all about being a gargoyle other than how to use her claws/wings/tail, and that, apparently, there are others like her. She is VERY excited to meet them, has many questions, is very naive, and is ready to get into some trouble. Her only real condition with going with this new group was that she'd be allowed to call, email, or write her father, updating him with how she's doing. (Yes, that's how I plan on doing my recaps, hehe)
There, I don't know much about the 'other clans'. All I remember from the tv show is Goliath and his crew (is that the wyvern clan?) So really, this character will reflect my knowledge of gargoyles, and I can learn things from her point of view, hehe.
Oh, and I did a lot of searching for portraits. Found a bunch of interesting ones, but this one looked like it had a lot've potential to be a cool girl, and also was most like the cartoon show's style. (Hopefully it's not an existing char?) But yeah, I didn't draw it myself, I always find images on the net.
